I'm not a Great Believer in Talent

"We are told that talent creates its own opportunities.  But it sometimes seems that intense desire creates not only its own opportunities, but its own talents."
~ Eric Hoffer

I'm not a great believer in talent.  Sure, we all have things that come a little more easily to us.  But the word "talent", as used by our culture, implies that we have God-given specific skills over and above everyone else that could be acquired in no other way.  I just don't believe that.  I believe in skill sets.  Anyone can learn the steps required to accomplish almost any task, if they are willing to do the work.  I see this fallacy a lot when I'm speaking about my art.  You wouldn't believe how many people say, "I couldn't paint to save my life.  I can't even draw a straight line!"  Neither can I.  That's why we have rulers!

If we believe that our specific skills are specially gifted to us (and not to others) then we are working within a major limiting belief: God is withholding good from us.  God could give us skills, but chooses not to for reasons we can't know or understand.  God withholds nothing from us.  All good is ours right here and right now, according to our beliefs.  We can only receive as much as we can comprehend.  Our goal, then, if we want to learns a new skill, is to believe that we CAN learn the steps required for that skill and then do the work!    The trick is that it's the people who already believe they can do it who bother to take classes, practice and expand their skill sets.  Those are the people who seem charmed and extra-blessed.  They are experiencing blessings according to their belief.

I know the Truth for every single person who reads these words.  God is all there is.    God withholds nothing from every one of us, who are living, creative expressions of the One Life.  The God energy within us cannot be limited.  When we embrace that energy, there is nothing we cannot do or learn or be!
