My Entire Book Manuscript!

For all of you who have asked (and there are a lot of you!!!), I'm doing something crazy: posting my entire manuscript draft on my blog!  Obviously, it will be a million times richer with gorgeous pictures.  I love the idea of books for kids that clearly illustrate spiritual principles in ways that truly affect children.  These are things we talk about at our house every day.  By the way, the clubhouse is real.

Book is Currently Untitled...

I have a secret club house in my back yard. It has a window shaped like a star to let the magic in. I built it with my brothers and sisters, so we would have our own special place.

Anyone can join our club, as long as they are special like us. You see, our family is magic. Whatever we think about, if we think really hard, comes true.

Some days, I think about things I really want, like winning a game or acing a test or getting a pony. Those are good days.

Some days, I forget what I’m doing. I worry about what would happen if I fight with my friends or get a bad grade or feel sick. It’s a bummer, because those things come true, too.

My Mom says that we are magic because we are made of God. She says God had a thought, and that thought was me. Now that I’m here, my thoughts create new things, too.

I’m not bragging about being made of God. It’s pretty cool, but it’s no big deal. You are made of God, too. Everyone is. We have to be, because God is all there is.

Think about that. God is all there is. Every single thing in the entire Universe is made of God, because there isn’t anything else to be made of. Every ladybug, every flower, every clump of dirt that you throw at your brother… all God.

Every friend in your class is made of God. That’s the easy part. You can see God peeking at you through the glimmer in your best friend’s eye as you share secrets, right? You can hear it in her giggles.

But that mean kid at your school, the one who pushes at recess and calls people names? Yep, he’s made of God, too. That’s the hard part, remembering that grumpy people and angry people and people I don’t like are God, too.

Because God is all there is. Every face I see, it’s really God looking out at me. It must be fun to be God, to get to be so many different things!

In our club house, we decide how the world should be, and we think really hard to make it so. Enough food for everyone in the whole world? Check! Peace so all the soldiers can go home to their families? Check! Candy raining from the sky? We’re working on that one…

It’s really easy to make magic. You can learn, too. Just think really hard about what you want to have happen. Picture it very clearly in your mind, like you’re watching a movie. FEEL what it feels like when your wish comes true. My mom says that your feelings send your wish into the Law, and that everything you place into the Law must come true.

Some people call this kind of thinking a prayer. Every prayer is answered, every single time. The Law doesn’t pick and choose, and it can’t play favorites. The Law is very fair.

Lots of my friends go to different churches than I do, or temples, or mosques. Some don’t go to any church at all. Their Moms probably say different things about God. I think that’s really cool, that everyone can talk about God the way they want to. God is a really big idea. There’s room for lots of ways to celebrate something so huge.

Some people use different names for God. At my church, they sometimes say Spirit, the Divine Mind, Mother/Father God or the Creator Source. My favorite name for God is the All Good.

It’s easy to feel good about myself when I know that I am made of the All Good. There can’t be anything bad about me. I’m All Good. I can’t be sick or broken or stupid. I’m the mighty, magical All Good in action! (There just has to be a superhero illustration here!)

I’ve been thinking about it. You should totally join our club. I can see the All Good in you. You have magic glimmering in your eyes. I think you belong here.

Welcome to our Club!
