The beginning of the end has arrived, and it is symbolized by this shoe. Not because it is impossibly and dizzyingly high. Not because someone wearing it might be endangering their ankles (and their date's foot). No, this very chic shoe represents the beginning of the end because it was purchased for my teenage daughter to wear on a date.
We all know it's inevitable. From the time little girls are old enough to bat their pretty little eyelashes at their daddies, we see it coming. "You're gonna have to beat the boys off with a stick." "You're in trouble with that one!" We laugh and imagine how fun that will be. And then, one day, a boy knocks on the door and asks to see your teenage daughter. The phone rings. The texts flow. There is an enormous amount of giggling. And finally, you take your lovely, young, sweet daughter shopping to buy a dress for the Spring Dance. She's so pretty and fresh and new to this world. She has everything ahead of her. And you remember how it felt to be her age, at this exciting time in your own life.
She has to grow up. It's the way of the world, and I know I need to let her test out these new waters. So I bought her a very cute strapless dress and these fantastic shoes. I teared up a bit, and then it hit me. There is a bright spot in all of this. After all of these years of losing my tank tops, flip flops and ballet flats into the abyss that is her bedroom, I will finally get my revenge. Because I am totally borrowing those shoes!Labels: boys, dance, date, dating, daughter, family, growing up, high heels, high school, mom, shoe, shopping, teenage
